Mosquitos on Curaçao There are a lot of mosquitoes on Curaçao, because of the tropical climate. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about that. Especially the rainy season, the period from September to the end of December, is known as the season with the most mosquitoes. In general you will be less bothered by mosquitoes from January to September. Fortunately, the Caribbean mosquitoes are not dangerous, but that does not alter the fact that the itching of the mosquito bites can be very annoying. There are a number of things you can do to protect yourself from those oh-so-nasty mosquito bites.
Use deet! Deet, I'm sure you've heard of it. Deet is a substance that disrupts the sense of smell of mosquitoes, which makes it less easy for them to find you and so you are less likely to be stung. DEET is available in different forms, namely: cream, spray, rollers or gel. For adults it is recommended to use a product with 50% deet and for children 30%.
Mosquito net It is very important to sleep well at night, especially on vacation. Then it doesn't help if you have a buzzing mosquito in the bedroom at night. A good solution for this is to hang a mosquito net. Then the mosquitoes don't stand a chance to sting you.
